Walking Buddy

Walking Buddy Support

Need help or found a bug? In the app, open Settings → Send Diagnostics: it prepares a message with the details we need (device, iOS version, the app's own log - never Health data). Add what you expected to happen and send it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the widget or a reminder show an older step count?

iOS delivers step updates to a suspended app at most about once per hour, so the widget and reminder counts can lag by up to an hour. Opening the app refreshes the numbers immediately. When a widget count is more than 30 minutes old it shows an "Updated" timestamp.

I just walked. Why did a reminder still nudge me?

Reminders are scheduled ahead of time on your device. If your phone has not yet received the latest step data, a reminder can arrive shortly after a walk. The next reschedule corrects the break size automatically.

Why do my steps differ from another step-counter app?

Walking Buddy reads steps directly from Apple Health, so its counts always match the Health app. Differences against other apps come from those apps using their own sensors or estimates.

Why don't reminders break through my Focus mode?

By default reminders respect Focus and wait quietly. Each goal has a "Deliver during Focus" toggle if you want reminders to come through anyway.

How many reminders can I get a day?

The free plan sends three pace checkpoints spread across your active hours. Walking Buddy Pro schedules every slot you set up: hourly at up to two minutes past the hour, every few hours, or your own times.

My goal skips some days. Can a reminder go missing?

Goals that are active every day are scheduled once and fire without the app. A goal with rest days and a dense schedule is refreshed around each rest day while the app runs in the background. If you force-quit Walking Buddy, iOS stops those background refreshes until the next launch, so open the app again after a rest day to be safe.

What does "Your usual pace" compare against?

The card on the Steps tab compares today with your average day over the past four weeks at the same time of day. It appears once seven days with steps exist and updates once a day. "On track" means today is within 10% of your usual count (never tighter than 300 steps), so an empty first hour does not read as falling behind.

Why is the Trend card empty?

Trends compare the past four weeks with the weeks before them and need eight complete weeks of step data. The Typical day card needs seven days; Records cover the past year; All Time reaches back to your first recorded day in Apple Health.

What is in the weekly recap, and can I turn it off?

Every Sunday evening (the last day of your calendar week, at 19:00) Walking Buddy sends one notification with the past seven days: total steps, goal-met days, your streak and the change against the week before. It needs seven days of step data. Turn it off in Settings > Notifications > Weekly Recap.

What do "Snooze" and "Done for today" do on a reminder?

Long-press a reminder to see its actions. Snooze repeats the same nudge 30 minutes later. Done for today silences the remaining reminders until tomorrow; the goal-reached notice and the weekly recap still arrive. Reminders resume with the first app refresh after midnight.

Which insights are part of Pro?

Your usual pace on the Steps tab, the past year of history and your records (best day, week and month) are free. The four-week trend, this week, month and year against the last (running totals and steps per day), the year heat map, the typical day with weekday and weekend averages, and everything older than a year (the Steps Log back to your first day and the All Time screen with per-year totals) are part of Walking Buddy Pro, together with streak protection (one missed day a week does not break your streak).

How do personal challenges work?

On the Goals tab, start a challenge with a daily target and a length (3 to 30 days). Every day counts, rest days included, and progress comes from Apple Health. The challenge completes once every day is met; a missed day keeps it running but marks the day. Give up at any time; nothing is shared and there is no account.

How do I share my progress or export my steps?

History → Share (the arrow in the top right) makes a square image of the selected week, month or year: average, total, goal days, streak and best day. Steps Log → Share exports every loaded day as a CSV file (date, steps, distance, goal met). Both open the iOS share sheet; nothing is sent unless you pick a destination.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Walking Buddy Pro is managed by the App Store: Settings → your name → Subscriptions, or the subscriptions page. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
